French fries, also known as “chips” in Ireland, England, and other Commonwealth countries, and “Pommes Frites” in Belgium and France, are a dish made from chopped and fried potatoes. In the United States, the dish is known simply as “fries. Generally, the word “french” in french fries is not spelled with a capital F because the word “french” in the dish does not mean nationality.<\/p>

Most food experts believe that the origin of french fries<\/a> can be dated\u00a0back to Belgium. However, the dish has gained a global reputation for its dominance in many American fast-food chains such as McDonald’s and\u00a0Burger King. Typically, french fries are served with hamburgers at American fast-food chains.\u00a0furthermore, the dish can also be served with fish, vegetables,\u00a0or meat, or on its own. This is also an example of a classic combination – fish and chips.<\/p>
